Task analysis

Description

Analysis and representation of processes; a detailed record of the exact steps required to complete a task or process; serves as input to detailed design specification, or to help identify aspects of the process that could be made more efficient.

Appropriate use

Task analysis should be conducted as a precursor to computerising processes, redesigning processes, or sometimes just as a stand-alone piece of work to understand more about your processes, by way of an audit. Task analysis might also be done to establish if there are any efficiency gains to be had from a redesign, for example, to assess if a few steps or seconds could be taken out of a trading transaction that involves a trader interacting with several software applications.

Output

Documentation plus graphics and hierarchical task analysis (HTA) diagrams, as required.
